Tony Kozlowski, 80, a resident of St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home, Silver Creek, N.Y., died Sunday evening (June 12, 2022) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
He was born Dec. 13, 1941, in Dunkirk, the son of the late Anthony and Irene (Kopliner) Kozlowski.
Tony attended Forestville Central School and the Fellowship of the Spirit Ministerial and Healing School in Lily Dale.
From 1963-70, Tony served in the New York State Army Reserve National Guard from which he received an honorable discharge He had been employed by National Fuel for 17 years. He then held various jobs at car dealerships, a bookstore and J & J Guns.
Tony followed his heart and passion as a man of peace and healing by earning certificates in Qi Gong, Reiki and Yoga. He also pursued other forms of natural healing, including a love of gardening and being in nature.
Tony served as a Yoga (Chi-Kung instructor) for 30 years; a pistol permit instructor for New York State/Chautauqua County for 22 years; and a NYS hunter safety instructor for 10 years.
Actively involved as a leader wherever he went, his gentle manner of leadership made him beloved by many. His spiritual teaching and leadership skills were shared at Fellowships of the Spirit Lakeside Learning Center, Lily Dale Spiritualist Community and as the Residents Council resident at St Columban’s. Tony was always advocating for the voices of others to be heard.
His favorite pastimes included martial arts, bicycling, hiking, cross-country skiing, physical fitness, reading, nutrition and holistic health and healing.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Kozlowski of Olympia, Wash.; one sister, Priscilla (Bill) Robinson of Fredonia; two brothers: Jeff (Jackie) Kozlowski of Cassadaga, and Tom (Deborah) Kozlowski of Porter Corners, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Michael (Stacy) Kozlowski PhD, Kathryn (Pace) Truman, Joshua (Kaylee) Guggenmos, Paul Guggenmos. Silas Miller and Timothy Miller; four great-grandchildren: Emmalee, Boston, Ayra and Ben; several nieces and nephews and cousins; and his treasured friend, Gail Lynn Heil.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene and Donald Kozlowski.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Tony’s life by donating to the Lakeshore Humane Society, rescuing an animal or planting peace in the world through gardening.
Calling hours will be held Friday, July 8, from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY 14048. A memorial service will be held immediately after the calling hours at 7 p.m. the Rev. Mark Thomas will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
