Thomas J. Muldowney, 86,of Dunkirk, NY passed away on Thursday morning, November 16, 2023 at Brooks Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Tom was born in the Bronx on August 10, 1937. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1955. He then went on to serve in the US Navy from 1955- 1959 as a member of the flight crew stationed in Newfoundland, Canada. Tom survived two plane crashes while serving his country.
For thirty-six years, Tom worked at a job that he loved: he was a court reporter for Family Court, County Court and New York State Supreme Court. Many of his closet relationships were made with the people he worked with all those years as a court reporter. He also worked many of the town justice courts at night with ADA’s Bill Foley and Scott Harley.
Tom founded a recreational vehicle business called Tee Pee Trailer Sales. He sold campers from 1967 until 1976 and then moved onto buying condos in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. They bought, rented and sold many condos until they permanently called their second home Seawood’s. New Smyrna Beach became their second home and enjoyed years of retirement with many friends that became known as family.
Tom was a member of the Dunkirk Fredonia Jaycees, Westfield Stock Club, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and his cherished club, The Viking Club on Chautauqua Lake. This love of the Viking Club has been passed onto several generations of children and grandchildren.
For sixty-three years, Tom was married to the love of his life, Patricia Muldowney. He is survived by his four children: Tommy (Lisa), Patti (Vin) Looney, Kevin (Marybeth) and Suzanne (Kirk) Schmidt, his ten grandchildren: Brittany (Andy) Napierala, Shaun (Michele) Looney, Briann (Sam) Looney, Katelyn (Jeremy) Brenner, Ian Muldowney, Kyle (fiancÈ Bri Price) Muldowney, Kevin Looney (fiancÈ Brenna Fosco) Kelsey Woodarek (Matt) and Patrick and Daniel Muldowney. Tom was proud to be the great-grandfather of Nora, Nina, Brady, Baker, Emmy and Luke.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 19, from 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church. Full military honors will be accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sheridan, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be to Brooks Memorial Hospital whose staff gave Tom the most amazing care or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
