Sally Jane (Maternowski) Berger

Sally was born on March 5, 1946 to Dorothy and Edward Maternowski in Silver Creek, NY. After Sally graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1964, she attended beautician school. In 1966, Sally and Frank were married, and went on to have two children, Lisa, and Scott, who passed away November 19, 2016. Sally and Frank were blessed with 43 years of marriage, before Frank passed away December 25, 2009.

Sally was known to be a wonderful cook and baker, always spoiling her grandchildren with treats. Sally also enjoyed gardening, and always included special flowers that would bring hummingbirds to her yard. She created and carried on many family traditions that will be honored and passed down for generations to come. Sally loved to travel, especially to the Florida home that her and Frank worked so hard for, and enjoyed every winter. Sally loved to spend time with her family and friends, often visiting new places and restaurants. She adored her two dogs and companions, Scout and Gigi. Sally was also the proud proprietor of the Northern Chautauqua Redemption Center, which her and Frank opened in 2001.

Sally was predeceased by her siblings Henry, Tom and Barbara (Wendel) Maternowski. She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Gary) Leber, grandchildren Jacob Berger, Gunnar Berger, Cierra (Eduardo) Rivera and Brianna Leber (Corey Gray) and great grandchildren Rory Gray and Catalino Rivera. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, including her Florida family.

While this is a monumental loss, her family is greatly comforted by the thought of the beautiful, heavenly reunion with her beloved husband Frank, and their son Scott. Her adventurous spirit will be missed by all.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 7, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Holly Clark-Porter will officiate.
