Ruth Mary Monter

She was born on April 12,1927, in Silver Creek, NY to Angelo and Anna (Perillo)Desko and had six siblings who predeceased her. She married Andrew on February 8,1947. During theWorld War II era, the women who joined the workforce provided their craft, vehicles, weaponry, ammunition, and other material to win the war were referred to as ”Rosie the Riveter”. Ruth joined the U.S. government’s Rosie the Riveter campaign and was recruited by the munitions industry making triggers for the guns for our American military forces. In 2019, Rosie the Riveters was collectively recognized for their contributions with a Congressional Gold Medal. Ruth was a member ofSaint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Marcos, Texas. She enjoyed volunteering and helping others in the community. During her time in Texas, she volunteered in activities to support the San Antonio PoliceDepartment, San Antonio Fire Department, Children’s Hospital, RonaldMcDonald House, Center for Health Care Crisis, San Antonio Food Bank,Blue Santa, the Lone Star Paws 4 A Cause, food drives and toy drives. Her hobbies included BINGO, crossword puzzles, crafts, gardening, canning, reading and good conversations.A mass will be celebrated at the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio,Texas at 10:00 a.m.on Thursday, February 2,2023.
