Ruth Mary Monter of San Marcos,Texas,left this world on January 27,2023,to be with the Lord and her beloved husband Andrew Monter Sr. and their grandson, Lee Monter. She is survived by her children: VictoriaAnne Washington, Andrew Monter Jr., Victor Monter, Miranda Combs, Mary Monter and Alberta Roth, her twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grand children, and four great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was born on April 12,1927, in Silver Creek, NY to Angelo and Anna (Perillo)Desko and had six siblings who predeceased her. She married Andrew on February 8,1947. During theWorld War II era, the women who joined the workforce provided their craft, vehicles, weaponry, ammunition, and other material to win the war were referred to as ”Rosie the Riveter”. Ruth joined the U.S. government’s Rosie the Riveter campaign and was recruited by the munitions industry making triggers for the guns for our American military forces. In 2019, Rosie the Riveters was collectively recognized for their contributions with a Congressional Gold Medal. Ruth was a member ofSaint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Marcos, Texas. She enjoyed volunteering and helping others in the community. During her time in Texas, she volunteered in activities to support the San Antonio PoliceDepartment, San Antonio Fire Department, Children’s Hospital, RonaldMcDonald House, Center for Health Care Crisis, San Antonio Food Bank,Blue Santa, the Lone Star Paws 4 A Cause, food drives and toy drives. Her hobbies included BINGO, crossword puzzles, crafts, gardening, canning, reading and good conversations.A mass will be celebrated at the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio,Texas at 10:00 a.m.on Thursday, February 2,2023. Father Ruben Garcia will act as the celebrant.A viewing will follow from 12:00 – 4:00 P.M.at Funeral CaringUSA in Shertz,TX 78154. Phone: (210)946-4445.
