Roberta J. “Bobbi Jo” (Dombrowski) Dewey, 75, of Dunkirk died unexpectedly Thursday morning (March 24, 2022) at home.
She was born March 19, 1947 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Aloys and Elizabeth (Szymanski) Dombrowski.
A lifelong area resident, Roberta was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, class of 1965. She had been em-ployed as a nurse at the Chautauqua County Home and also worked at Kmart.
Survivors include her husband, David L. Dewey, whom she married June 7, 1969; one son, Tyler (Ashley) Dewey of Fredonia; two daughters, Tammi (Michael) Gunther of Fredonia and Mary Elizabeth Dewey of Dunkirk; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Dora, John, Wyatt, Alexis, and Brianna; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her uncle, William “Bill” Szymanski; and her aunt, Dorothy Szymanski.
Roberta was often known as the life of the party. Always willing to look silly to get some laughs. She loved to make people laugh. Roberta also loved to craft and bake. For many years she would enter cooking contests held by the Evening Observer. She often won 1st place. Due to her mobility issues she was forced to retire at an early age which brought on the desire and need to share her culinary skills by writing and publishing a cookbook. She also would make the cookie platters for local Christmas open houses. Not only was she a mother/grandmother she was the glue that held our family together. She knew how to make you smile even when you felt as if your whole world was crumbling down around you. She forgot her pain to ease others. She is our redheaded, polish, blue eyed, funny angel who will always be in our hearts until we meet her at the gates of heaven.
Calling hours will be held Monday, March 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held immediately after the calling hours at 7 p.m. The Rev. Daniel P. Walsh will officiate. Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
