Richard W. “Dick” Grilley, 77, of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully in his sleep at UPMC Chautauqua, in Jamestown, N.Y., after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and kidney disease on Oct. 27, 2022.
He was born Oct. 4, 1945 in Minot, N.D.,, the son of the late Wesley Warren and Velma Irene (Freshman) Grilley.
Dick spent most of his life in Montana, but moved to New York State in 2002 with his second wife and stepson.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Dick was awarded a National Defense Service Metal and Good Conduct Medal.
Dick was a gentle soul. Above all, he was a dedicated worker, spending 60 years of his life in various service jobs. He was most proud of assisting mentally and physically disabled adults in his job at Easter seals in Great Falls, Mont..
Survivors include his son, Clifton Grilley of Montana; daughter, Collette Grilley Grina of Montana; and cat, Missy.
Per Dick’s wishes, there will be no service. Should anyone wish to honor Richard Grilley’s life, please make a donation in his name to the Humane Society of Dunkirk.
