Richard Ford Butler also known as Yellowknife, 93, of Dunkirk, passed away on November 26, 2024 at home. Richard was born on February 27, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, son of the late Ford E. Butler and Louise Boleski (Walt) Mauthe. Dick respectfully succumbed to the many blessings he had throughout life. His family and friends were always close by to shore a laugh while enjoying good food and stories in the garage or basement of his house. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by man and more so by his loving family.

Dick was a 1949 Dunkirk Industrial High School graduate. After high school he worked at Keystone Chromium Corp in Dunkirk as a plater, then enlisted and served honorably in the United States Air Force active duty (June/1951- May/1955) and reserve status (1955-1959) as an Airman First Class engine mechanic. He earned the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Metal. Upon return to Dunkirk he continued his love for mechanics while working for Dunkirk’s former Nash Garage. His quality skills didn’t go unnoticed and he was soon recruited by Del Murray to work for Iroquois Gas which is now known as National Fuel. After 29 years as a sub-Forman for National Fuel. Dick retired in 1987 and gratefully enjoyed 37 years of retirement.

Dick was known throughout the neighborhood as the go-to guy when having care problems. His generosity reached many hearts and educated the curiosity of the young car and motorcycle enthusiast. He served as president of the former Lake Shore Road Runner Motorcycle Club from 1971 to 1978. The new car of radio controlled devices sparked his interest and he soon became a radio control car enthusiast. He could be found racing his RC cars at various events and indoor shows. His down time was spent watching NASCAR and his favorite drivers on the circuit. Traveling in the famous (Purple Van) that he converted into a camper to Darlington, Bristol, Charlotte, Dover and Indianapolis. When time allowed, his joy of rolling skating gracefully around the rink and also dancing to the local bands made him known for his graceful physical showman talents.
