Milta Cosme

Milta Cosme, 70, of Dunkirk, N.Y., was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 25, 2022, after an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 15, 1952, in Rincon Puerto Rico to the Late Bernardo and Maria Valentin Rivera.

Milta traveled to Dunkirk with her family at the age of 5 years old and made this city her forever home. She was always a proud City of Dunkirk resident.

She graduated from Dunkirk Senior High school class of 1972 and studied at SUNY Fredonia. She went on to work many jobs including being a recreation specialist at Cassadaga Job Corps. She later retired as a bus driver for First Student Inc.

She was an active parishioner at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister. She was also president of the Hispanic Ministry and member of the Pastoral Counsel.

Milta was very loved in the community and always tried to give back to the less fortunate. She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to all. Milta was very devoted to her family and her church.

Growing up she enjoyed sports playing softball and shooting billiards. She hosted weekly domino games in her home with dear friends and loved to cook for everyone. She was an avid collector of frogs, and turtles. She loved her plants, music, dancing, crafting and art.

She is survived by her three daughters: Jody (Eddie) Roman, Jenice Echevarria and Jodice Valentin, all of Dunkirk. She also fostered many children whom she loved as her own.

She is also survived by her siblings: Gloria (Angel) Santos of Jayuya Puerto Rico, Jose (Margarita) Valentin Sr. and Doris Mirna (Jorge Sr.) Ortiz, both of Dunkirk and Arnell Lines of Reading, Pa. Nieces & Nephews include: Tanya (David) Taveras, Jose (Venesia) Valentin Jr., Jorge Ortiz Jr., Ar’mani and Ariyah Lines. She is also survived by her most precious six grandchildren: Mikaila Townsend, Yanaija Potter, Raymond Johnson, Yamaria and Yahlana Kingsberry and Edynn Roman. Her great-nephew, Josiah Ortiz; and her one great granddaughter; Adai’ya Banach.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her forme,r husband Jose Cosme; an infant grandson; and infant great-niece.

Calling hours will be held TODAY, from 4-7 p.m. at the McGrawKowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in St Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to the Hispanic Ministry at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church of Dunkirk, N.Y.
