Michael E. Krystofiak, 69, of Dunkirk died Sunday afternoon (Nov. 5, 2023) at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1954 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Harry and Veronica (Katulski) Krystofiak.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Michael was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, class of 1972. He had been employed as a professional firefighter for the city of Dunkirk for 26 years before his retirement in 2007. Following his retirement from the Fire Department Mike worked several years as a Toll Collector for the New York State Thruway Authority.
Michael was a member of the Kosciuszko Club, Dom Polski Club, The Falcons Club, and the Moniuszko Club.
Survivors include his wife, Michele (Sloma) Krystofiak, whom he married June 1, 1985; four children, Steven (Ally Rosing) Krystofiak of Dunkirk, Danielle Krystofiak of Lockport, Michael (Karina Barroso) Krystofiak and Mickane Krystofiak, both of Dunkirk; ten grandchildren, Steven, Jordan, Savanna, Hannah, Jayden, Alyssa, Kendra, Kamdyn, Daymon, and Kyra; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathy (Joe) Krystofiak Holland of Fredonia; and mother-in-law, Lori Sloma.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Edwin Sloma.
Mike was an avid NASCAR fan, Buffalo Bills fan, and New York Yankees fan. In most recent years Mike enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. Mike loved animals and had countless pets through the years. You could often find Mike at the lake enjoying the sunset. Mike was most at home riding on his Harley Davidson which brought him such enjoyment.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, from 3-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Dunkirk Fire Department.
