Martha (McCollister) Sroka, 64, of Dunkirk passed away surrounded by peace, love, and some of her favorite people Thursday morning (Dec. 8, 2022) at Brooks Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born June 9, 1958 in Cuba, NY, the daughter of the late David and Joyce (Lilly) McCollister.
A resident of the area for most of her adult life, Martha grew up in Angelica, NY. She was a graduate of Livonia High School and Jamestown Community College.
Survivors include one daughter, Miranda Presler of Fredonia; one son, Andrew Sroka of Fredonia; two grandchildren, Nicholas Whitfield Jr. and Keegan Whitfield; five sisters, Brenda (Dan) Gill, Diane (Jim) Jones, Deborah (late Jeffrey) Kirell, Lisa (Marshall) Ehmke, and Kimberly (Daniel) Woloszyn; three brothers, Michael (Carol) McCollister, David McCollister Jr., and Frank (Rachel) McCollister; loving companion, Tom Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Keith McCollister.
Martha will be remembered for her love of her family, especially her children and two grandsons. She loved spending time with her sisters and they could be found at Fredonia High School football and basketball games creating the loudest cheering section in all of Western New York. To say she will be missed is an understatement, for her passing has left a hole in the hearts of all who have ever had the pleasure of having her in their lives.
Martha’s family would like to thank the staff at Brooks Memorial Hospital for their excellent care, especially her nurses Alicia, Noelle, and Alayna. Their kindness, patience, and compassion make them true angels on Earth.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, Dec. 18, at 11:30 a.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home with a luncheon to follow at the First Ward Falcons Club, Dunkirk, NY.
