Marguerite A. “Peggy” Gould

Marguerite A. “Peggy” Gould, 89, of Fairport, NY, formerly of Dunkirk, NY, died Tuesday evening (Jan. 3, 2023) at Fairport Baptist Home.

She was born July 27, 1933 in Cherry Creek, NY, the daughter of the late George and Alvina (Eckert) Motto.

Peggy had been employed as a sales clerk at several stores in Dunkirk, including Triangle Shoe Store where she was Assistant Manager, Rosing’s, and Sidey’s Department Store. She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

Peggy enjoyed sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles, card playing, cooking, and baking (especially Christmas cookies during the holidays). Her wit and sense of humor would fill the room with laughter and happiness. She was also hard working, and was often the first one there to lend a helping hand. Her love and support of her family, friends, and all those she loved will always be remembered.

Survivors include one son, Steven George (JoAnn) Gould of Perinton, NY; two daughters, Susan Aileen (Gary) Flagg of Amherst and Sandra Lynn (Jeff) Julian of Sarasota, FL/Bemus Point; one sister, Geraldine Galafaro of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Rachael (Mike) Gould, Jodi (Eric) Coleman, Ryan (Aidan) Gould, Jeremiah (Jennifer) Flagg, Kelly Flagg, Brian (Krista) Julian, and Laura (Richard) DuBois; six great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Marshall, Nora, Townsend, Rainier, and Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ignatius J. Gould, whom she married July 29, 1950 and who died Dec. 4, 2014; one granddaughter, Jillian Flagg, six sisters, Aileen Barone, Betty Jackson, Lois Motto, Harriet Norris, Doris Falkner, and Katherine Hodges; and eight brothers, Gerald Motto, Charles Reading, Richard Reading, Walter Motto, George Motto, Herman Motto, Val Reading, and Thomas Motto.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Deacon Michael C. Lemieux will officiate. There will be no prior calling hours. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery following the service.
