Margaret R. Gennuso

Margaret R. Gennuso, 96, of Fredonia, N.Y., passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at ECMC Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

She was born April 4, 1926, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y., the daughter of the late Anthony F. Abbata and Angeline S. (Sofia) Abbata.

Besides Margaret’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Gennuso; son, Anthony P. Gennuso (Tammy); daughter, Denni Gennuso-York; grandson, Samuel M. Gennuso; sister, Anna (Abbata) Normand; and brother-in-law, James Normand. Margaret was also preceded by her father-in-law, Sam Gens; brother, Anthony J. Abbata; and sister-in-law, Connie Abbata.

She is survived by her son, Sam Gennuso (Sandy); sister, Diana J. Szwejbka (David L.) Margaret; also leaves behind grandson, Adam Gennuso and grand-daughters: Briea and Keyona Gennuso; four great-grandchildren: Alaina, Maverick, Robert and Sophia; and many nieces; nephews; great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She loved working the local farm stands and enjoyed tying and picking grapes, bingo and cards. She loved all things purple and her vast collection of earrings.

To the loving staff and residents at WCA Home in Fredonia, thank you for looking after and embracing this wonderful person.

Margaret will always be remembered for her compassionate heart, generosity, and sense of humor, as her loving niece referred to her as our “Aunt Lucy” (Lucille Ball). Despite her disappointments and sad events throughtout her life, Margaret maintained her sense of dignity and was the epitome of unconditional love.

A very warm and heartfelt thank you to Sharon and Ken Kuwik, Angela and David Couchman, and our newly “adopted” family friend, Silvia, for going the extra mile and giving their time and support during this most trying of times.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis. TN 38105, or to the charity of your choice.

There will be no visitation, and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be sent to Sam Gennuso, 271 Liberty St., Fredonia, NY 14063 or D Szwejbka, 49 Xavier Rd., Clarence, NY 14031. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
