It is with the deepest sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Luis M. Vega, who departed this life at the age of 79 on April 10, 2025 surrounded by his beloved family.

A man of unwavering faith and devotion to God, Luis walked through his life with love, kindness, and humility. His quiet strength and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He not only guided his own children with wisdom and grace but also stood as a father figure to many others — a source of support, compassion, and encouragement.

Born in Patillas, Puerto Rico on March 19, 1946, Luis served honorably in the United States Navy during his youth, demonstrating a deep sense of duty and patriotism. After his service, he returned to Dunkirk, NY where he built a life centered on faith, family, the Yankees and service to others.

For nearly 55 years, he was the devoted husband of Carmen Lydia (Rivera) Vega. Together, they built a family rooted in strong values and unconditional love. He leaves behind three children who will forever carry his legacy, as well as ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who were the joy of his later years. Memories of his silly dad jokes and energetic playfulness will serve as a salve for those who held him closest.

To know Luis was to feel welcomed and cared for. His smile was warm, his advice thoughtful, and his heart always open. Whether through a casual conversation, a shared prayer, or simply his presence, he made the world better for those around him.

He will be missed beyond words and his life will be celebrated with love and gratitude. We take comfort in knowing that he now rests in the eternal peace of God’s embrace.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

John 16:22 “Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.”
