Lourdes Mendez

She was born May 28, 1937 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Manuel and Andreita (Oquendo) Mendez.

She was a member of the Assembly Of Christian Church in Dunkirk for more than 40 years.

Lourdes was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great- grandmother. She was a great cook and a avid Yankees fan.

Survivors include seven children, Angelo Saavedra, Andrea Diaz, Iluminado Diaz, Ricardo Diaz, Evelyn Diaz, Janette Diaz, and Jackie Maldonado; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Rosario Mendez; and her daughter, Amelia Sanchez.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, from 2-7 p.m. at Assembly Of Christian Church, 316 Eagle Street, Dunkirk. Funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at the church. Pastor Rosa Cuebas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dunkirk.
