John Dale Abram, 74, of Fredonia, formerly Brocton, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2022 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.
Dale, as he was known, was born on Dec. 23, 1947, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late John (Jack) and Fern (Pickard) Abram.
Dale graduated from Brocton Central School, Class of 1966, and continued his studies, graduating from Erie Community College. He was employed by NRG Energy (formerly Niagara Mohawk) as an electrician at the Dunkirk Steam Station, retiring after 32 years.
He served as village trustee for two terms in the mid-70s. He also served as mayor of Brocton for two terms in the mid 2000s.
Dale was an exempt member of the Brocton Fire Department, where he served as an officer, and EMT on the Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Brocton.
He was a member of Local 97, Brotherhood of Electrical Works, Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, J.W. Dill American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose 89, Bear Lake Rod and Gun and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.
He is a member of St. Anthony’s Church and a former member of St. Dominic’s in Brocton, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Dale loved to hunt and ride his gator on his land, where he enjoyed family gatherings ‘up there in God’s Country’. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football, the Buffalo Bills and the Yankees.
The love that he had for his children and grandchildren was unsurpassed. He enjoyed watching his grandson play hockey and baseball, while also watching his granddaughter meet new heights in softball and taekwondo. His family was his world.
He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Karen Abram; two daughters: Kelly Abram of Fredonia, and Megan Abram of Hamburg; two grandchildren: Brady and McKenna Crawford; brother, Terry (Sharon) Abram of Brocton; sister, Kathy (Scott) Veith of Erie, Pa.; sister-in-law, Patricia (Thomas) Taylor of Dunkirk; nieces; Ann Marie (Gerald) Jernigan of Dawsonville, Ga., Colleen Veith of Erie, Pa., Laura (Andrew) Jacques of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Amber (Michael) McIntyre of Portland, N.Y.; nephews: Scott (Trisha) Veith of Erie, Pa., and Dennis Abram of Portland, N.Y.
He was preceded by his parents and brother, Dan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass which will be celebrated Monday, June 20, 2022, at 10 a.m., in St. Anthony’s Church, Orchard and Cushing Sts., Fredonia. There will be no prior visitation.
