James Joseph Kwiej, 74, of Los Angeles, CA, formerly of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 in Los Angeles, CA. Born in Dunkirk on March 27, 1950, Husband of Manja (Vandevelde) Kwiej and son of the late Albin and Dorothy (Katta) Kwiej.
Jim graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1968. He moved to California at a young age, and went onto work as a Yardmaster for Southern Pacific for 30 years, a role that not only showcased his expertise but also reflected his true passion for his job.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was known for his vibrant personality. He possessed a great passion for life that was evident in every interaction. His kindness and sense of humor, described as "obnoxiously funny" by those who loved him, made him a person who was well-loved and respected by everyone.
Jim enjoyed a variety of hobbies that added richness to his life. He had a love for food, movies, and traveling, which fueled his sense of adventure. He especially enjoyed scuba diving, fishing and walking in Echo Park in Los Angeles.
An ardent sports fan, Jim was deeply passionate about playing and watching all sports, with a particular fondness for tennis, bowling, and baseball.
Survivors include his loving Wife of 38 years, Manja (Vandevelde) Kwiej, whom he married on May 27, 1986. Siblings Thomas Kwiej, Joan (Ken) Schnur and Steven Kwiej. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jim are his parents Albin and Dorothy (Katta) Kwiej, a sister, Maxine Petrella and most recently his brother, Alphonse Kwiej.
Funeral Services will be held in private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
