James G.“Coach” Noto, 63, of Dunkirk, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning (July 14, 2022) at Buffalo General Hospital with his brother and his loving companion by his side.
He was born June 1, 1959, in Dunkirk, one of two sons born to Samuel and Marie (Mancino) Noto.
Jim attended grade school at St. Mary’s School. He was a proud 1977 graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School, and was a member of the 1977 Georgetown Cup Championship Baseball Team.
Jim had been employed at Alumax and The Resource Center, and also had tended bar at several local clubs.
He was a member of American Legion Post 62, Moniuszko Club, Fourth Ward Falcon Club and the Dunkirk Exempt Fireman’s Club, and a life member of the Lakeside Club.
Jim was an avid sports enthusiast, never missing a Boston Celtics or Baltimore Orioles game. He was a coach at both St. Mary’s and NCCS from 1980-2008. Jim was not only a coach, but also a mentor to all of his players, maintaining friendships with them to this day. Jim played Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and was a member of the Fredonia State Blue Devils Baseball Team. Jim played City League Softball and Mens Senior League Baseball and was one of the top hitters in both leagues, earning him the nickname “The Hit Man”.
Jim was a former aerobics instructor. His favorite band was The Rolling Stones.
Survivors include his brother, Charles (Debbie) Noto; his loving partner, Laurie Heeder; several cousins; and an endless group of lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Marie (Mancino) Noto.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Church. Father Daniel P. Walsh will officiate. There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northern Chautauqua Catholic School, 336 Washington Ave., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
