Higinia (Vega) Lozada, 82, of Dunkirk, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Patillas, PR on January 11, 1942; wife of the late Candido Lozada Sr. and daughter of the late Deacon Francisco Sr. and Eufemia (Ruiz) Vega. 


For years, Higinia dedicated herself to her work as a presser for M. Wiles in Dunkirk. Her commitment to her job was matched only by her devotion to her family. Higinia was known for her unwavering love and support, and she took great pride in planning family events that brought everyone together. Her culinary skills were exceptional, and she delighted in cooking for her friends and family, with her Spanish rice being a particular favorite that will be lovingly remembered.


Higinia's personality was marked by her friendliness and sociability. She thrived in the company of others, taking joy in forming connections and nurturing relationships. An avid reader, Higinia also enjoyed puzzles and crocheting, hobbies through which she found relaxation and fulfillment. She loved to travel and listen to music. 

As a devoted Catholic, Higinia held her faith close to her heart throughout her life and was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. Above all, she was immensely proud of her children, considering them her greatest accomplishment.

Surviving Higinia are her children Ida (Donald) Hariston, Nancy (Robert) York, Jeanette (Jose) Morales, Maria (Michael) Young, Candido (Theresa) Lozada Jr., Rebecca (Eddie) Ruiz, Andrea (Carlos) Gallo; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; siblings Luis Vega, Francisco Vega Jr., Ramon Vega, Aida Luz Vega, Wilda Vega Singer Wilcox, Thomas Vega, Catherine Vega, Miguel Vega, and Reynaldo Vega. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded by her loving Husband, Candido Lozada Sr. ; parents Deacon Francisco Sr. and Eufemia (Ruiz) Vega and her sisters Maria Nieves and Juanita Cordero. 

Friends and family are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
