Geraldine B. Knoll, 101, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at her home in Rocky Hill, CT, following a short illness. She was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on May 3, 1921 to Paul and Catherine (Kokocinska) Brooks.
Geri was a 1938 graduate of Dunkirk High School and a 1942 graduate of the Fredonia Normal School (now SUNY Fredonia) where she studied to become a teacher before marrying Aloys Green and raising a family. Following Al’s death in 1972, she returned to SUNY Fredonia where she earned a Master’s degree in Developmental Reading. She married Richard Knoll, a high school classmate, in 1975, and joined him in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where she remained until 2020.
A devout Catholic, Geri began each day attending Mass where she served as a lector and eucharistic minister. She enjoyed keeping busy with friends and family, exercising at her local gym, playing golf with the Saratoga Ladies Golf League, baking, volunteering, playing bridge, gardening, travel, entertaining, and singing — especially You Are My Sunshine. Throughout her life she remained curious, competitive, and compassionate, always striving to help others in need and offering smiles to everyone she met.
