Gary N. Kowalski, 74, of Fredonia, N.Y., passed away on Christmas Day at Brooks Hospital after a brief illness.
Gary was born May 17, 1949 in Dunkirk, son of the late Norman and Loretta (Sadowski) Kowalski. He graduated from Silver Creek High School and served in the United States Army from 1969-1971, where he was an MP cook. Later, he served as a manager of an Officer’s Club in Germany.
For a short time he worked at Dunkirk Ice Cream. Gary was a restaurant owner for some years in Fredonia. He operated BJ’s Down Wind CafÈ where he was famous for his “chicken wings”. He was currently working at Tim Horton’s in Dunkirk at the time of his passing, where he worked for the last 8 years.
Gary is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane (Wlodarek) Kowalski of Fredonia; a daughter, Michelle (Paul) Abate of Fredonia; grandchildren: Ryan and Madeleine; also survived by one brother and two sisters.
Besides his parents, Gary is predeceased by his son Scott Kowalski.
