Eugene H. Boner, 95, of Dunkirk, died Wednesday evening (April 20, 2022) at home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Franklin, Pa., the son of the late Joseph A. and Hazel (McFate) Boner.
An area resident for most of his life, Eugene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-45. He was extremely proud to have served his country in World War II. Rank of seaman first class. He was in the Invasion of France June 6,1944, fought in D-Day. He was in in the Amphibious Force aboard LST 508.
He had been employed as a steel worker for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation in Dunkirk 30 years, He worked for the N.Y. Telephone Company and worked as a Pinkerton supervisor.
Eugene was a member of John T. Murray Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1017 and American Legion Post 62.
He enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing, drawing and painting. He was a sports fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and the New York Yankees. He also loved his little Poodle dog, Cuddles.
Survivors include two daughters: Molly (Anthony) Coniglio and Linda (Carl) Bailey, both of Dunkirk; one son, John (Karen) Boner of Dunkirk; seven grandchildren: John (Stephanie Buck) Boner, Adam Boner, Garret (Erica) Boner, Heather (Drew) Anderson, Amy (Justin) Nediceyuva, Nicholas Bailey, and Courtney Bailey; 12 great-grandchildren: Atlas, Penelope, Harper, Lyla, Mac, Aria, Tatum, Sadie, Josie, Vance, Margot and Olivia; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Albrecht) Boner, who died Nov. 27, 2005; five brothers: Joseph, Robert, George, Kenneth, Ronnie Jo Boner; and his sister, Betty Kockler.
Graveside services were held Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the columbarium of Willowbrook Park Cemetery. The Rev. Zoe Milliman officiated. Full military honors were accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
Arrangements were by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
