Dunkirk

Charlotte Buchanan, 82, of Dunkirk, New York, passed away peacefully at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk on January 31,2025. Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on September 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Samel L. Cooper and Thelma L.Cooper. 

A graduate of Dunkirk Senior High School, while completing several College Courses at State University New York of Fredonia.

Charlotte retired from the City of Dunkirk Personnel Department. She was a faithful ,dedicated member, and Sunday school teacher at Friendship Baptist Church .

Charlotte was a caring mom who always put her children first. She was a patient listener, offering a warm hug and wise advice whenever they faced challenges or had a tough day. Her children knew no matter what, they could always count on their mom to be their biggest supporter and fiercest protector. In every way, through acts big and small , Charlotte embodied the selfless, devoted love of a truly wonderful mother.

Charlotte's legacy of love and empathy will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her, serving as an enduring reminder of the profound impact one compassionate soul can have on the world. Her boundless capacity for kindness and understanding touched the lives of countless individuals, from the closest members of her inner circle to the acquaintances and strangers fortunate enough to cross her path. 

Charlotte was a pillar in the community, a beacon of strength, kindness and unwavering dedication to making her town a better place for all.

She is survived by her husband, Lucian Buchanan for 62 years, her children Shelia (Buchanan ) Nance, Luchelle (Buchanan) Ortiz, Marcus Buchanan, Natasha Buchanan of Dunkirk NY, and Alicia (Buchanan) Arias of Bronx NY, 18 Grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren , sisters Sabrina Cooper of Dunkirk NY, and Pamela Cooper of Wilmington North Carolina a host of nieces and nephews , Special Friends Vera Waller, Marlene Raymond both of Rochester NY. 

Besides her parents Samuel and Thelma Cooper she was preceded in death by her son Terrance "Terry" Buchanan , brother Charles "Ray" Cooper , sisters Jacquline "Jackie" Cooper, Denise Raymond, nephews Kennith Cooper and Daniel Cooper. 

Friends and family are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church. Interment in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
